Dr. Janine Carney is currently working as a research scientist at NETL. She obtained her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Idaho, and her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado. Her research interests are in the areas of granular and multiphase, gas-solid flows involving particle mixtures. Previous work includes investigation of fundamental assumptions commonly made in development of polydisperse kinetic theory based continuum models for solids, development of CFD software to include more rigorous constitutive relations, and validation of the resulting models. She is currently working on development of the discrete particle model in MFIX, including coarsening methods and heat and mass transfer processes, so that the model may be applied to larger reactive dense gas solids systems, such as, coal gasification.
