Is it mandatory to cite any official MFiX literature?

If I want to use data calculated by MFiX to publish an SCI paper, must I cite any official literature in the references?

The file “NOTICE” (which is not included in the Conda packages, I will fix this) states:

  • The use of MFIX is to be acknowledged in any published paper based
on computations using this software by citing the MFIX theory
manual. Some of the submodels are being developed by researchers
outside of NETL. The use of such submodels is to be acknowledged
by citing the appropriate papers of the developers of the submodels.

Here’s the standard citation for the Theory Manual:

Syamlal, M., Rogers, W., & O’Brien, T. J. (1993). MFIX documentation theory guide. DOE/METC-94/1004 (DE94000087). U.S. Department of Energy, Morgantown Energy Technology Center.
