Turbulence model coefficients

Hello,

I would like to know if someone could clarify me or where to find additional information (apart from the paper of Benyahia, 2005), on how to apply k-epsilon turbulence in a DEM model. The implementation in the .mfx file is clear for me. However, I don’t quite understand how the boundary and the initial conditions required by the model are related to the usual turbulence constants C1=1.44, C2=1.92, sigma_ep=1.3 and sigma_k=1.

Thank you and best regards,
Eduardo

Hi, at that time (2005) there was no detailed documentation on mfix equations, even the mfix equations document (2012) has some shortcomings.

Today, there is this documentation that can help you understand turbulence models:
Musser, Jordan M, and Carney, Janine E. Theoretical Review of the MFIX Fluid and Two-Fluid Models. United States: N. p., 2020. https://doi.org/10.2172/1604993

If not, this paper that is cited in the DEM equations documentation can help you:
Kataoka, I., Serizawa, A., 1989. Basic equations of turbulence in gas–liquid two–phase flow. Intl.J. Multiphase Flow 15 (5), 843–855: https://doi.org/10.1016/0301-9322(89)90045-1

Best Regards

Hi,
thank you very much for your answer. I will check both documents.
Cheers,
Eduardo

I have the same question.
What is a good value for the initial K-e turbulent kinetic energy value
and a k-e trubuelent dissipation value?
