Greetings, can we get an update on progress of smooth (not glued spheres) non-spherical DEM? Has it been implemented in DEM-CFD (instead of just granular) and if so status of validation? I ask about validation as the closures for non-spherical objects is the subject of a lot of discussion and uncertainty. Thank you.
The superquadric particle method for non-spherical DEM/DEM-CFD in MFiX is still under development as a lot of work is needed, including implementation, parallelization, verification and validation.See one example below: M&M chocolate candies static packing in a cylindrical container.
Thanks for the prompt reply. Looks promising. Any estimates on release, maybe by the end of 2020? Also what are plans for implementation in the CFD part regarding closures, etc.? We are really excited by this important development!
Thanks. The release date is not available yet. For CFD coupling, the drag force (maybe lift force also), heat/mass transfer/reaction will be implemented.
That’s really cool! I’m looking forward!
