2011 NETL’s Multiphase Flow Workshop

Dear MFIX user,

The annual multiphase flow sciences workshop, hosted by NETL's Multiphase Flow Research Team, was held on August 16-18 in Pittsburgh, PA. Over eighty researchers from around the world attended. During the three day workshop, 40 presentations were made covering areas of interest to the multiphase community, such as fundamental multiphase model development, application of advance diagnostic tools to gas-solid flows, oxy-combustion, gasification, chemical looping, and CO2 adsorption. In keeping with the 2006 Multiphase Flow Technology Roadmap, an entire afternoon session was devoted to the quantification of uncertainty and its application to the area of multiphase flows. During the workshop, a meeting was held with researchers from Ames Lab, LLNL, Virginia Tech, and NETL's multiphase research team to discuss future collaborative work in the area of uncertainty quantification in gas-solid flows. Also, the results of the most recent NETL-PSRI multiphase Challenge Problem were presented. Feedback provided by the participants will be incorporated into the next multiphase challenge problem scheduled for 2012-2013. The 2011 multiphase workshop proceedings can be viewed at http://www.netl.doe.gov/publications/proceedings/11/mfs/index.html.

Regards,
