John P. Wakefield

John Wakefield is a Physical Scientist at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). He holds a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Applied and Interdisciplinary Mathematics from the University of Michigan. Before joining NETL in 2024, John tackled complex problems such as traffic modeling using hyperbolic partial differential equations (PDEs), analyzing dissipation and dispersion properties of numerical methods for compressible turbulence, and approximating intraparticle chemical kinetics. As a member of the multiphase flow team at NETL, he uses and extends MFIX-Exa to address emerging challenges in chemical engineering.
