NETL and GE Global Research sign a Cooperative R&D Agreement (CRADA)

The proposed CRADA will bring together NETL’s expertise in the area of computational multiphase flows with GE Global Research expertise in the area of meta-modeling and uncertainty quantification (UQ) and application of UQ to robust design, and optimization of fossil fuel based advanced clean energy technology development, such as scale-up studies for coal gasifiers.  GE’s proprietary UQ analysis code will be used to conduct model input uncertainty propagation, sensitivity analysis and to assess model discrepancy in CFD simulations of a lab scale fluidized bed gasifier.  The supercomputer at NETL’s High Performance Computing (HPC) center and other DOE Leadership Class HPC facilities will be used to execute the simulation matrix required for the CRADA.  The experimental data for the lab scale fluidized bed is provided by University of Saskatchewan, Canada.
