Dear MFiX user,

We are pleased to announce the MFiX 24.2 release. Please download the latest version. See the release note below that highlights the changes from the previous version.

Please visit the MFS forum for any software related questions, or send administrative questions to admin@mfix.netl.doe.gov.

The MFiX Development Team

New features:

  • DEM rigid motion: Particles belonging to a given solids phase can be assigned a rigid motion (translation or rotation about an axis)
  • Keyframe data: A new keyframe data workflow was implemented, which can now be used without any User-Defined-Functions. The keyframe data file can be loaded in the GUI, and the time-varying data can be assigned to select keywords. All tutorials using keyframe data were updated to show how to use keyframes. Current support for keyframe data include:
    • Mass inlet velocity for gas (all models) and solids phase (tfm only)
    • Tangential wall velocity for granular DEM/SQP/CGP/GSP models
    • Internal surface velocity for granular DEM/SQP/CGP/GSP/PIC models
    • DEM rigid motion velocity

Improvements:

  • Better GSP seeding in parallel (mpi) runs
  • GSP particles are generated with vtk library now
  • Particle diameter and SQP quaternions are now always saved into the vtp files

Notable bug fixes:

  • Fixed missing data when reading particle_input.dat and writing particle_output.dat
