NETL is pleased to be exhibiting at Supercomputing SC18 in Dallas, TX from November 12-15, 2018. This year will feature a 20’ x 20’ booth at the event promoting the lab’s programs and capabilities. The exhibit will highlight the new JOULE 2.0 NETL supercomputer ranked at Number 52 in the Top500 list for November 2018 (https://www.top500.org/list/2018/11/ ). The exhibit provides a direct connection to companies and industry leaders interested in NETL’s supercomputing capabilities including personnel, software, and the new Joule 2.0.
NETL staff will attend the exhibit and meet with interested potential partners.

Every year at Supercomputing (SC), the world's experts gather to display and talk about the next generations of software and hardware, pushing the capabilities of computing. As supercomputers continue to get bigger and faster, significantly more simulations can be performed. This opens the door to performing design optimization of complex chemical reactors, which typically require hundreds to thousands of simulations to explore the design space so that the optimal design can be found. NETL is taking advantage of these performance increases and creating tools to utilizes these resources to help engineers design advanced chemical reactors, increasing the efficiency and decreasing emissions of fossil energy conversion technologies. The video below demonstrates these tools, optimizing a cyclone to improve that separation efficiency while minimizing pressure drop.
